Sonora Elementary School kindergartners in Jane Braga’s class celebrated Thanksgiving Friday with a finger food feast. Dressed as pilgrims and American Indians, students passed a stuffed turkey around and shared what they were thankful for. Then they enjoyed foods ranging from chicken nuggets and cheese sticks to corn bread and pumpkin pie. On Wednesday Sonora Elementary School held the first of three school spirit rallies to be held this school year. Sonora Elementary School was briefly locked down Thursday morning after suspected gunshots were heard off campus. From about 11:22 to 11:25 a.m. two resource teachers reported hearing gunshots in the area behind the north side of the school, not on campus, said Principal Pam Vlach. A Sonora police officer remains hospitalized after a weekend crash on Lyons Bald Mountain Road. Jeff Aitken was in critical condition this morning at Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto. Mary K McDaniel was a 10-year-old with bright, drifting chocolate eyes who, most of the time, wore a broad smile of jumbled children’s teeth. Her adoptive parents, Sonora’s Mary and Alford McDaniel, say Mary K indeed seemed happy.
