The Sonora City Council will honor Sonoran Phil Coke for his performance during the New York Yankees’ World Series-winning season on Dec. 7. Pennie Austin-Wilson, of Sonora, died Oct. 28 in Sonora. She was 55. She was born in Salinas to LaVerne and Charles Austin and lived there until 1970, when she moved to Sonora with her family. High school students got a lesson in criminal justice last week at Peer Court, a program where teens guilty of certain crimes are sentenced by their peers. massive, record-setting storm swept through the Mother Lode Tuesday, leaving thousands without power, closing roads because of downed power lines and littering streets with fallen trees and snapped limbs. Mark Quinn was driving home when a tree fell on his Chevy Tahoe at Stockton Road and Washington Street in Sonora. Sonora, CA -- The power is back and the lights are on at Sonora High School. According to Principal Todd Dearden the power disappeared at 8:45 this morning. Even with that development it was quickly determined that the school day would go on as scheduled.
