        In Mattie Lively Elementary School's lunch room, Sharmane Lee quietly rules the roost. A graduate of Statesboro High School in 1980, she was raised in Statesboro by her parents, Joseph and Louise Hendrix.

        Tanita Peak, a fourth grade teacher at Brooklet Elementary School, was named Friday the 2010 Bulloch County School System’s Teacher of the Year. Peak learned of her selection Friday morning when Superintendent Lewis Holloway and administrators surprised her in her classroom.

        A faulty transformer caused an electrical fire and evacuation at Mattie Lively Elementary School Wednesday morning, but no one was injured and classes resumed as normal after about an hour.
