Vanden High School's Gabriella Ponce earned a berth in the finals of the Solano County Athletic Conference tournament.Ponce opened with a bye and then won two matches on Thursday at the Solano Athletic Club in Fairfield to reach the finals. Vanden High School's Virtual Enterprise, Robotics, and S.A.G.E. clubs are holding a combined electronic waste collection and food drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2951 Markley Lane, Fairfield.The event is free. Vanden High School's girls tennis team hosted Will C. Wood in the Wildcats' season opener, and the Vikings earned a 7-2 victory.Vanden swept singles play with five of the six matches won in straight sets. Andrew Aplin picked up a big save as the Vanden High School baseball team held off Rodriguez 6-5 Tuesday night at Laurel Creek Park in Fairfield. Andrew Aplin and Tyler Flurey combined on a one-hitter as the Vanden High School baseball team held off visiting Bethel 2-0 in a pitching duel on Thursday.Aplin went five innings and struck out 11 to go with no walks. Solano County Chief Probation Officer Isabelle Voit has announced the promotion of Bruce Lillis to Chief Deputy Probation Officer."I am very pleased to promote Bruce to this position. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the job and has demonstrated his commitment to public safety," said Voit in a press release announcing the promotion.
