    The schoolbus lights started to flash, and bus driver Valerie Crawford pulled old yellow to a stop on Tega Cay's Lake Forest Drive. The kids piled out, and boom — crossing the street strode this big, tall guy about 6-feet-4 with a bush of brown hair and wearing a Best Western racing shirt and the biggest smile any kid who just got off a school bus ever saw.

    NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip swapped jobs today with a Tega Cay dad. He hammed it up at the bus stop, helped a 10-year-old with long division and even started the laundry.

    More than $58,000 in state money is headed to York County to bolster arts programs put on by schools, community theaters and cultural groups. More than $13,000 will go to arts programs in Lancaster County, and one program in Chester County will get about $5,200.

    York County school districts participated in a May 16 bowl-a-thon at Striker's Family Sports Center, Rock Hill, to raise more than $20,000 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The event was sponsored by the Early Learning Partnership of York County.
