    Surprise, surprise, Adams State College won its home Joe Vigil Invitational with a perfect score Saturday afternoon in Alamosa. Reuben Mwei finished first for the Grizzlies in 24:27.

    Editor's note: On April 17, Durango School District 9-R announced that 19 employees in the district will not have jobs this fall. Most of the layoffs are at Durango High School, which is projected to lose more than 200 students in part because of the opening of Animas High School this fall.

    The Bayfield High School boys cross country team raced to top honors Saturday in the annual Chicken Creek Challenge, hosted by Mancos High School. The Wolverines won the boys team title with 21 points. Pagosa Springs was second with 35.
