    Even though Holbrook Junior/Senior High School doesn’t have a music teacher this year, some students and a few of their parents haven’t let that stop them from performing their upcoming holiday concert at the school.  They will also perform at Holbrook’s 31 st annual Christmas tree lighting celebration on Dec. 15.

    Mary Gainey, a senior at Blue Hills Regional Vocational Technical High School, was recently awarded two scholarships from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. One of the scholarships was the 2008 Rensselaer medal award for excellence in mathematics and science, and the other was the Paul and Kathleen Severino scholarship for women who excel in academics.

    A new position at Holbrook Junior/Senior High School this school year is being filled by a familiar face. Vinnie Hayward is the dean of students in Grades 7-12. Hayward, who has worked in the school for the past nine years as the physical education teacher for all grades, has also coached boys’ baseball and girls’ volleyball.

    While reading a verse from the Bible, Michelle Yundt was inspired to do God’s work and help others in need, she said. The verse where Jesus says to Peter three times, “Feed my sheep,” got Yundt thinking that she should organize a food pantry, and she quickly got the church she belongs to, Brookville Baptist Church, on board as its site.
