In 1935 I discovered jazz when my mother gave me a radio. My love for jazz has given me great listening pleasure all my life and invaluable opportunities to meet some of the great jazz men of the 1930s and 40s, such as Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong. Many times we kids from Bronxville, N.Y., would hitchhike to the 241st Lexington Avenue subway.
