In response to the class discussion Matt Fertakos and Melissa Danitz, along with other seventh grade students, chose to donate food, clothing, books and other needed items to the Morris Mission.

    Some schools across the Lower Cape are reporting student absentee rates of 20 percent and higher, presumably due to flu – swine or seasonal. A typical absentee rate is about 5 percent or 6 percent, area superintendents say. Middle school-age children appear to be taking the biggest hit. At Nauset Regional Middle School, 106 of the school’s 567 students were absent one day last week.

    Ms. Julin’s second grade class grew, harvested, dried, and popped popping corn this week. This corn was grown in the elementary school garden courtyard with the help of Wendy Koblish, the garden club advisor. Students had to rub the kernels off the ears of corn and wait for them to properly dry out.
