Three of my children went to Imagine last year. Two did well academically. This year I had two children there since one moved up from 8th grade. My 3rd grader was doing amazing. Mrs. Neal was his teacher. He loved going to school each day. Wonderful teacher! My 5th grader has been struggling and school only started a little over a month ago. Mr. Ampha was his teacher until last week. My Son struggles with ADHD and takes meds at home and at school, when they remember to give them to him. My son was getting write ups regularly, when I asked the teacher if we could try a daily point sheet with a reward system, letting him know I would supply everything he said NO, that it sounds great if I wanted to do that at home. When there is an obvious problem solutions should be brainstormed, he was against any ideas. Mr. Rawley is the Principle whom never should have been promoted to this position. Mr. Ampha refused to let my child use the restroom last week in class and finally after my child offered to give up his lunch recess if he could just use the restroom, Mr. Ampha let him go. Unfortunately it was too late. My child had an accident in the restroom. He tried to cover it up and splash water on the front of his pants to make it look like the sink had sprayed him. He was very embarrassed as any 10 year old boy would be. Mr. Rawley came into the restroom and was badgering my son to tell him the truth about what happened in the restroom, my son was embarrassed and said the sink got him wet. My son asked Mr. Rawley if he could go to the nurse for a dry pair of shorts and a belt, Mr. Rawley said No, you can go to my office. Once my son was placed up at the front desk, there was other staff around and Mr. Rawley continued to say allowed to my son, "You had an accident didn't you, you need to tell the truth". The tone I got on the phone from Mr. Rawley I'm sure is the same tone my 10 year old got. Mr. Rawley was upset that my son would not admit that he wet his clothes, but how could he, he was very embarrassed and Mr. Rawley was not empathic to him at all. He was humiliating my son in front of others. I did inform Mr. Rawley that this was not about a child telling the truth or not. My son should have been walked to the nurses office, given a clean pair of underwear and shorts and told it was okay, not be embarrassed, and led back to the restroom to clean up the water mess around the sink, NOT HERRASSED because he was scared to tell Mr. Rawley that YES he had an accident. I pulled both my boys out of Imagine the next day. They have started their first day at Gilbert Elem. and the teacher my 5th grader has is very knowledgeable about ADHD and has a background in Special Education. Also, I spoke with the nurse at Gilbert Elem. whom said my son will never miss a day of his meds as that is WRONG for Imagine to forget at times, and if my son ever does have an accident in the future she LOVINGLY showed him a closet in the nurses offices with emergency clothes and a private room to change. The nurse assured my son that he would never have to be embarrassed or let others know of an accident, that it's private. Wow, what a great feeling at Gilbert Elem. we had this morning.
