Mira Mesa Senior High School is a public high school in the San Diego City Schools District. The school is recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and a California Distinguished School.
The Witch Creek Fire

On October 22,2007, many victims found shelter in the school gym, after they evacuated from the Witch Creek Fire and several other fires threatening San Diego at the time. The fire burned over .

Mira Mesa Sapphire Sound Band and Color Gaurd
The Sapphire Sound is the school's marching band. In SCSBOA, the group is classified as a 5A band with about 140 members. The Sapphire Sound also boasts one of the largest color gaurds in southern California, with about 40 members, both male and female. Currently directing the Sapphire Sound is John Dally, who transferred from Point Loma High School. The Sapphire Sound also has won many awards in both field and parade, including top auxiliary in the 5A class. The Sapphire Sound was part of the band that performed in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Opening Ceremonies.
Mira Mesa AFJROTC
MMHS is home to the 936th Wing of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps. This unit has a Sabre Team, an Armed Fancy Drill Team, an Unarmed Fancy Drill Team, and Color Guard Team. The Wing has a friendly rivalry with Scripps Ranch High School's AFJROTC Group.
