School Notes:
  • Morro Bay High School is located in the city of Morro Bay on the coast of San Luis Obispo County, California. Students of the school are typically residents of Morro Bay and the neighboring town of Los Osos (6 miles away). The school consists of about 900 to 1000 students a year. The school is only a 1/4 mile from the Pacific Ocean which is convenient for students during lunch breaks and before/after school.
  • Late in the 2009 school year, Dan Andrus was named the successor to "graduating" principal, Pete Zotovich.
  • Morro Bay High School sports teams (known locally as the Pirates) are within Los Padres League, which consists of 6 other high schools. The sports teams include:
  • Fall Sports:Boy's Waterpolo, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football, Girl's Golf, Girl's Tennis, Girl's Volleyball.
  • Winter Sports:Girl's Soccer, Boy's Soccer, Girl's Basketball, Boy's Basketball, Wrestling, Girl's Waterpolo

  • In 2005, Morro Bay High School was accredited as a California Distinguished School by WASC, and also named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006.
  • Additionally, Morro Bay High was the first school in the district to have its website made entirely by students.
  • In early September 2006, the school received a bomb threat by telephone. This incident was notable because it was the first time that the school had gone to pre-evacuation status in many years.
  • On May 20, 2008, students were locked down for nearly seven hours after Morro Bay Police Department got another disturbing prank phone call saying that some students may probably have brought guns and bombs inside the school.
  • According to some seniors, Morro Bay High School is haunted. Apparently, a boy hung himself in the boys locker room, a boy fell off of the bleachers in the old gym, and according to some people, if you walk around late at night you can hear people playing tennis when no one is there.
