As a freshman quarterback at Walbrook High, Jamar Peete was talked into playing lacrosse by Ray Harcum, then the school's junior varsity football coach and varsity lacrosse coach. Walbrook is a troubled school even by Baltimore City standards, with a huge turnover in staff the last four years, low test scores and a rough neighborhood outside its doors.
