  • Coronado High School (CHS) is the fourth-oldest high school in District 11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, named for Francisco Vásquez de Coronado. CHS currently has a student body of 1,515.
  • Coronado High School is located high on Mesa Road and Fillmore Street, on a mesa overlooking Colorado Springs, with a view of Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods.
  • The school's colors are scarlet red and new gold, and the mascot is the Cougar.
  • Coronado students produce a weekly television show for the student body, which is downloadable from the school's podcast.
  • The school currently competes at the 5-A athletics level in every sport except football. This change from 5-A to the 4-A division took effect starting in the 2006 season.
  • Coronado High School's current principal is Susan Humphrey.
  • History
  • Charles Daughterty, a black male con artist, was arrested in 1990 for enrolling at Coronado High School and representing himself to be a 17-year-old white female high school student. In his female persona, Daughterty joined the school's all-female cheerleading squad, where he was made head of the squad; however, once arrested and his true identity exposed, Aerison was kicked out of the school and the cheerleading squad.
  • A senior prank played at the school was featured on the MTV show High School Stories. The prank involved six students who changed the school's front sign and called local media outlets to notify them that school was canceled due to a water main break when, in reality, school was still on.
