School Notes:
  • Woodbridge Senior High School was established in 1964 and the students went to school at 2201 York Drive in Woodbridge Virginia at what is now Woodbridge Middle School. In 1973 the current school was opened at 3001 Old Bridge Road in Woodbridge Virginia.
  • Woodbridge High School runs the program for the Center of Fine and Peforming Arts, which includes concentrations in creative writing, dance, vocal music, instrumental music, visual arts, and theater. The CFPA used to offer television production as well, but the program was canceled due to lack of participation. It is also known for its men's lacrosse team (2005 Cardinal District Lacrosse Champions and state final four), hockey team (the 2005-06 Virginia State Champions), crew team (Women's Junior double placed 2nd, and women's senior four+ placed 4th at 2006 Nationals & had several boats place at 2006 NOVA's), and their talented football team (made the AAA Division 6 Virginia state playoffs three years in a row; 2004, 2005, and 2006). Woodbridge High School is also home to the nationally-award winning literary arts magazine, Eddas, named for the collection of old Norse poetry.
  • Recent renovation: As of Summer 2005, Woodbridge Senior High School has been undergoing extensive renovation through out the entire building. During the previously mentioned summer, the math pods were completely renovated, and the social studies pods begun, despite minor problems such as leakage in some of the classrooms. Trailers for the classes undergoing renovation in their traditional classrooms were parked in the near the school tennis courts for classes to be held it. The classrooms, as they were being renovated, were moved out into these trailers and class was held outside for a rough period of two months, and the classes that were held in the trailers rotated as the pods were reconstructed.
  • Students came back to school in the Fall of 2005 to find that they had no ceilings, as the tiles had been taken out for replacement, and since that revealed electrical wires and other assorted paraphenailia, there was worries that those conditions would prove to be determental, however, these wires were kept as secure in the ceiling as possible, and no injuries were recorded.
  • During the school year of 2006, the social studies, english, and foreign language pods were renovated, along with other various classrooms such as JROTC, and during the summer of 2006, the art classrooms and science pods were renovated, due to the inadequacy of trailers as sufficient makeshift classrooms for those areas of study.
  • The renovation is scheduled to be complete during the summer of 2007.
  • Woodbridge Senior High School is not the only Prince William County School to be renovated recently, as this is a project going on in many of the schools in the state of Virginia.
