When the Gorricks moved to Alachua from West Virginia in 1989, the first thing they did was set up a soccer goal in their backyard. The 9-acre lot was soon occupied by a basketball court, a place to play volleyball and a trampoline.

Santa Fe High School is a high school serving grades 9-12 in the Alachua-High Springs area in northwestern Alachua County, Florida. It is part of the Alachua County Public Schools. The school mascot was originally the Rebels, but was later changed to the Raiders in 1970 when integration was implemented. The school colors are red, gray, and white. Bill Herschleb is the principal and the Athletic Director is Michelle Faulk.
Principal Bill Herschleb has offered an afterhours program known as "Raider Aids" to assist students in academia. Santa Fe also offers 15 Advanced Placement Courses and an Academy of Agriscience.
Athletics
The Santa Fe varsity football team won the Florida High School Athletic Association's Class 3A State Championship in 1991 and again in 1994. The basketball team has won 5 consecutive district championships - more than any other team in North Central Florida. They won regionals and districts in 2008, but lost in the state semi-finals. The volleyball team advanced to the Elite 8 in 2005 and 2006. The 1987-88 volleyball team went to the 2A Florida State Final 4. The "Raider Regiment" has one 6 consecutive state championships.
Agriculture Program
Santa Fe High School has a unique agriculture program that attracts many students across North Florida. Part of the unique program is witnessing live artificial insemination of cows.
Notable alumni
Notable alumni include Chicago Bears running back Adrian N. Peterson, Atlanta Falcons middle linebacker Mike Peterson. Gina Crews, a graduate in 1991, starred in Survivor Marquesas 2002.
