Mulberry police are sponsoring a school supply drive for Purcell Elementary School. Donations of items such as crayons, pencils, notebook paper, eraser caps, folders, notebooks and rulers will be accepted through Monday at the Mulberry Police Department, 104 S. Church Ave., or Wal-Mart at 6745 N. Church Ave.

Ruth Bachelder Teets said she would have “never conceived receiving an award like this.”The spunky blonde schoolteacher from Purcell Elementary School in Mulberry selected as Polk County’s Teacher of the Year for 2009 received all the accolades that go with it, a ring, a brand new car, a check, and an opportunity to be entered for the next level, the Teacher of the Year for the State of Florida.
