  • Allen D. Nease High School is a public high school in the St. Johns County School District, located in Ponte Vedra, Florida that was established in 1981. The school is a member of the International Baccalaureate program and was rated the 81st best high school in 2007, 91st in 2008, and 93rd in 2009 by Newsweek.
  • Namesake
  • Nease High School is named after Allen Nease, a pioneer in Florida's reforestation efforts, and donor of the land on which the school was built. Nease also served on the St. Johns County School Board for 24 years, 17 of which as chairman.

  • In 2006, eight Nease students were finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program earning prestigious scholarships. National Merit Finalists are the top 1% of high school seniors nationwide and are competitive for admission to any college in the nation.

  • The Nease Arts program is known as the premier public school arts program on our nation's "First Coast". Nease has staged productions such as Grease, Annie, Little Shop of Horrors, etc. with drama directors such as Sheri Little and jazz-oriented directors of the likes of Douglas Carroll and Nick Albanese. At District Festival 2007, Drama Troupe 4641 claimed an impressive six Critic's Choice Awards and two of four State Playwright selections along with double-digit Superior and Excellent ratings respectively. Every year for the past four, Nease has won an Ensemble Acting Critic's Choice. Districts 2007 became the first time in recent memory that one talented individual has won the Critic's Choice for all of their events. The Thespian Society at Nease includes six officer positions along with an active and diverse membership.
  • Each year, the theater program produces two main-stage productions: one musical and one full-length play. Additionally, a one-act is taken to District Festival, later to be showcased at the school's Night of Stars and an IB Comprehensive Theater III/IV is produced during the school year.
  • The Instrumental Music area was inititated by Nick Albanese (Bachelors of Music - University of Florida) and developed by Mr. Douglas Carroll (Bachelors of Education - University of Florida) during his tenure from 1996 to 1999, when the School District doubled from two to four high schools (including Al Dodds, Band Director)in St. Johns County.
  • Mr. Albanese remains active in F.B.A. activities in the North Florida area while Mr. Carroll supports education-based initiatives via grants works.
  • Nease Choir is currently directed by Mrs. Laura Adkison. Various Excellent and Superior ratings are won by them each year.
  • Also, Nease's band program is currently directed by Michael Johnson. A University of Florida graduate. He has brought the band from 40 kids to 160 kids in the past 4 years. Nease's Marching band, 2 years ago, made it past states doing their show 'Way fo the Warrior' which was a great success. This year Nease band is playing their show "Sinfonia" by Bach. They are currently in need of uniform jackets because the band has grown so much. Donations are greatly appreciated in the Nease band environment. Nease band goes everywhere with the football team cheering them on and playing songs such as the infamous 'ESPN', 'All You Can Eat', 'Holiday', and many more.

  • The Nease Athletics program was rated the #1 athletic program in the State of Florida in 2008.
  • Football
  • The Nease Panthers football team were FHSAA Class 4A State Champions in 2005, as they beat the Armwood Hawks 44-37, led by Tim Tebow, the 73rd Heisman Trophy winner. The football team was also FHSAA Class 4A State Runner-Ups in 2006 and 2007, losing to the Plant Panthers 25-21 in 2006 and Washington Tornadoes, the #4 team in the country, 23-15 in 2007. The state championship games in 2005 and 2006 were played at Dolphins Stadium in Miami, while the game in 2007 was in the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando. The football team was also televised on ESPN High School Showcase when they played the Hoover Buccaneers in the first ever high school football game televised on ESPN on August 28, 2005. That game was the highest rated high school football game in television history with about one million viewers. From 2003 to 2008, the football team was coached by Craig Howard and had a record of 56-12 with four straight playoff appearances and a Class 4A State Championship win in 2005. Nease Football has also produced 67 college football players since 2004, which is the most in Florida during this time. On January 12, 2008, Coach Howard resigned as head coach and was hired by Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida as their new head coach. However, defensive coordinator Danny Cowgill was named the new head coach one day later. Nease has a record of 63-16 over the past 6 years.
  • Golf
  • The boys team were Class 4A State Champions for the years 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2007.
  • The girls team were Class 4A State Runners-up for the year 2007.
  • Soccer
  • The girls team were Class 4A State Champions in 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2008.
    The boys team were Class 4A State Champions in 2007 and 2008, and State runner-ups in 2009.
  • Volleyball
  • The Nease volleyball team were Class 4A State Champions in 2008
  • Basketball
  • The boys team was Class 4A State Champions in 2002, led by a star studded starting five: #13 C-H-E-T Chet, Chet, Chet BOOM! Stachitis, #10 DR. Trey wellington, #34 Jon "Nuts on ya chin" Gabriel, #4 "Downtown" Drew Himel, and #23 TJ,TJ,TJ,TJ Paterick. .
    The girls team was Class 5A State Champions in 1999, led by Kelly Stevenson.

  • The girls swimming and diving team was Class 2A State Runners-up in 2008.
