  • Spruce Creek High School is located in the city of Port Orange, Florida. It is the largest IB high school in North America[1] and is one of Newsweek's Top 100 High Schools.[2]. Spruce Creek High School is part of the Volusia County School District, which comprises eight other high schools and 80 schools total. [3] As of 2006, the school includes 59 portable classrooms spread out across the campus. The school has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, as well as a Florida Music Demonstration School several years in a row.
  • IB Program
  • Spruce Creek offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. As of the 2007-2008 school year, it is the largest IB school in North America, and number 4 in the world, based on the number of IB exams administered.
  • Academy of Finance
  • The Academy of Finance exposes students to the financial services industry. Students should be comfortable with numbers and have a strong desire to excel. People who are good game players and are willing to adhere to high ethical and moral standards are well suited for business and financial professions. Through enrollment in the Academy of Finance students are prepared with the analytical, mathematical and verbal skills needed in higher education and the financial services industry.
  • The Academy of Information Technology and Robotics
  • The Academy of Information Technology and Robotics is designed to introduce high school students to the rapidly expanding digital and technological workplace and to the wide variety of career opportunities that it offers. Students will take courses in programming, database administration, web design, digital design, PC repair and networking. There will also be a gaming and simulation track offered next school year.
  • Business Cooperative Education
  • Business Cooperative Education is a training program for students planning careers in business and/ or office occupations. Students go to school in the morning and work each afternoon on the job for an average of 15-25 hours per week. It is a cooperative effort between the school, parents, the student and the employer. All cooperate to assist the student-trainee in applying on the job what her or she is learning in class. BCE helps prepare students not only for his or her career upon graduation, but also for college business courses and for college expenses.

  • The mission of the Spruce Creek High School JROTC is to provide high school students the highest quality education possible while incorporating the principles of leadership, discipline, patriotism, and honor.   • CreekConnect
  • CreekConnect is a web site that allows students to view grades, schedules, calendars, talk to teachers, and announcements that are added by their teachers, who are able to exchange messages with their students. It also allows parents to view their child's grades, schedule, tardies, Teacher bios, and obligations. CreekConnect is unique in Volusia County, and is an on-going programming project for computer programming students at Spruce Creek High School.

  • Athletics and Sports
  • The Spruce Creek Athletic Program has won the Five Star Volusia County Trophy six times in a row from 2000 onwards. It has produced several athletes of note including Ryan Lochte, US Olympic gold medalist swimmer. In 2006, the girl's softball team was runner up in the state tournament.[4]
  • As of the 2007-2008 school year, the Spruce Creek boys' weightlifting team has won 24 Florida State Weightlifting Championships, and has 79 individual Florida State Weightlifting Champions. They also hold the record for the longest streak of consecutive championships at 11, from 1994 to 2004. Since their streak ended, Creek has added another title in 2006, and came in 3rd place in 2007. Six Creek lifters also hold individual state records in their respected weight classes. The Creek girls' weightlifting team has won all five Florida State Championships since its introduction in 2004. Also, the Spruce Creek Boys' Soccer team made the Class 6A Final Four for the first time in school history.[5]
  • Also for the 2007-2008 school year, Spruce Creek was awarded the Dodge Sunshine Cup All-Sports Award for class 6A public schools within the state of Florida. This award honored Spruce Creek as having one of the best overall sports programs in the state.Spruce Creek has a dance team called Papillon Dance Ensemble. Spruce Creek also has a colorguard program which runs during two seasons (Marching and Winterguard).
  • Music and Performing Arts
  • The Spruce Creek Musical Performing Arts department has received numerous awards and invitations to events such as the Tournament of Roses Parade and locations such as France, England, and China, and is the annual co-host of the yearly Lakeside Jazz Festival along with Atlantic High School. Spruce Creek has an award-winning chorus program. They have been involved with the Florida Vocal Association, Stetson Choral Clinic, and the EPCOT candlelight ceremony. As of 2008, it was announced that they will be traveling to Europe in 2010, including visits to Germany, Austria, and The Netherlands where they will be performing.

  • Color Guard
  • The colorguard is a team of 20-30 performers that participate with the bandat halftime productions during football games and continue with competitiveindoor performances in the Winter and Spring. The performers havefundamental to advanced training in dance, flag, rifle, sabre, and/or pompon. This is an audtion only group. Auditions are in May of each schoolyear.
  • Mu Alpha Theta
  • Spruce Creek is one of only two Volusia County schools that have an active branch of the Mu Alpha Theta math honors society. Members regularly participate in the regional competitions, and on April 21-22, 2006 went to the state level competition, which had not happened in recent years. Several students received awards for ranking among the top 20 in the state in various fields.

  • The Academic Team is an academic organization that competes with other members of the Seminole/Volusia Academic Conference. Requirements for membership are a 3.0 GPA; must have taken Geometry or presently taking it as a sophomore; have taken Chemistry or Biology; and be approved by 3/5 of the executive council.
  • Accipiter Magazine
  • Accipiter is for all students interested in discussing art, creative writing, and magazine layout, and publication. The club works to create and publish an art-literary magazine consisting of student work. Members are involved in the promoting and review of submissions as well as the design and layout of the magazine.
  • Amnesty International
  • The purpose of this club is to provide students with an opportunity to have a greater understanding of the problems and conditions of other countries. Also, to stimulate an interest in worldwide human rights and to broaden the educational background of the conditions and prejudices of other countries and peoples. URL:

  • The art club is for all students at Creek having an interest in art. The club encourages student participation and attendance at area art shows and lectures, and promotes an appreciation for all aspects of fine arts.

  • The Beta Club is an academic honor club at Spruce Creek High School as well as a national honor club. Membership is by invitation only based on eligibility established by the national organization. The club's main focus is academic competitions at the county, regional, state, and national levels, and also to participate in homecoming activities, fundraising, service projects, and recruiting new students for Latin I.

  • The NHS, an academic club, received its Spruce Creek Charter during the first year of the school's existence. It is meant to honor those among the student body, who excel in the academics and to provide limited services to the school and community.   • Membership is open to all who are taking or have taken a Psychology or Sociology Class successfully with a 2.0 grade point average. The purpose of this club is to enhance knowledge and understanding of psychology and to explore the many different areas of psychology.

  • Spruce Creek High School's Academy of Information Technology and Robotics participates in the FIRST Tech Challenge, FTC. The program serves as a building block for the FIRST Robotics Challenge program, which the school also participates in. It is currently a Junior Varsity sport and Spruce Creek High School hosts a certified FTC competition in mid-December, known as RobotFest.

  • Spruce Creek is home to the only FIRST Robotics Challenge program, FRC, in the county; however, the school also invites other local schools to participate. The county currently recognizes the school's FRC program as a Varsity sport, which participates in the FRC regional competition in March. The team has also competed at Tempest in Tampa, TNT, during the 2006-2007 season.
  • Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering (SECME)
  • SECME is an academic club designed to offer the minority students the opportunity to investigate the field of engineering. It is open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who are enrolled in a college preparatory program, have an interest in engineering, a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a teacher or counselor recommendation.
  • Spanish Club
  • Spanish Club is an interest club made up of members of Spanish students and students interested in the Spanish culture. Its purpose is to increase a student's understanding and appreciation of the Spanish language and cultures. The Spanish Club participates in supports all activities sponsored by the school. It also plays an active role in county and state conferences.
  • Spanish Honor Society
  • The Spanish Honor Society is designed to promote the students' interest in the Hispanic culture and language. Students are made aware of the many opportunities to enrich their understanding of the language and culture.
  • Tutoring is offered by the club to the student body and also to members within the club. As well as helping out the community in general; students are offered the chance to participate in aiding their school through service activities.
  • Students apply for membership in March. They must have a 3.5 GPA and a 3.7 in Spanish after three semesters of high school Spanish. All applicants must have recommendations from their teachers, community and club activities, and a well written Spanish essay. Of course, participation in the Foreign Language Festival is a key factor in the selection process.
  • Spirit Club
  • The SCHS Spirit Club is open to all students. The purpose of this club is to involve more students in extracurricular support of Spruce Creek High School.
  • Student Government Association
  • The SGA is the recognized representative organization of the student body. It is composed of the SGA Executive Board and the Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class Boards. The SGA is responsible for planning and carrying out most of the Homecoming activities, the class and SGA elections, Mr. and Miss Spruce Creek Pageant, and blood drives. They are also involved in "Open House" and other opportunities to serve the school. It is the desire and responsibility of the SGA to involve the total student body in as many of these activities as possible. This group invites student input and participation in all planning sessions and activities.
  • Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
  • SADD is the only student based, activist organization at Spruce Creek dealing with underage drinking, drug abuse, and death due to drinking and driving. Having the philosophic base, 'If the problem is mine,then the solution lies with me'. This club is open to all Spruce Creek High School students. URL: [12]

  • Students for Environmental Awareness, is an interest club active in promoting awareness of our environment and wildlife conservation. Along with service activities at SCHS and in the community, this group also studies the needs to make our world a better and healthier place for all.
  • Teen Trendsetters Reading Mentors (TTRM)
  • TTRM is a club that encourages high school students to become involved in reading mentoring and tutoring programs with their local elementary schools. The goal is to provide elementary students with positive role models who can facilitate learning and reading improvement. URL: [13]
