Brussels special education teacher Melissa Sievers was honored by her selection as one of the top 10 teachers in Illinois. Sievers attended the 35th annual Those Who Excel/Teacher of the Year banquet in Peoria late last month.

Rosemarie Ruben, 61, Florida, formerly of Brussels, passed away in Sanford, Fla., with her family at her side after a battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 23, 1948, to Milton (Mel) and Sarah Johnson in the Town of Gardner. She attended Tornado grade school and Brussels High School.
