Glenbard South High School, or GSHS is a public four-year high school located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. It is part of Glenbard Township High School District 87, and is the smallest of the four Glenbard Township High Schools.
History
Glenbard South was the fourth of the Glenbard high schools built. It opened in 1972. The capacity of the building is 1500, but with additions, could actually house 2500 students. There are very few windows, however the library, art rooms, and the addition to the science wing are equipped with windows.
Press
Glenbard South's school newspaper appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for misspelling the slogan, "Where Excellance is Tradition." Leno laughed at this.
Academics
In 2005, Glenbard South had an average composite ACT score of 24.0, the highest out of the four Glenbards, and graduated 96.3% of its senior class. Glenbard South has made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievements Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act.
The staff is 100 teachers, of whom 94% hold an advanced degree. The average class size is 23.3.
Athletics
In 2001, Glenbard South won the Illinois state championship for Boys Cross Country.
Activities
The Math Team took first place in the state of Illinois among schools with 1,000 to 1,999 students in 2006. In 2007, the Math Team won first place at the Western Sun Conference meet by a score of a Western Sun Conference record of 425.
The Mock Trial team won the state and came in 8th nationally in 1996.
The Glenbard South Symphonic Band won the 2007 Illinois Superstate Concert Band Festival in the Class AA Division. The previous time the Band won was in 1992.

Greg Bloedorn is a former NFL long snapper for the Seattle Seahawks.
Tim Costo (1987) is a former Major League Baseball player (1992–93), playing his entire career for the Cincinnati Reds.
Jason Karnuth is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher.
Tom Krieglstein (1999) is a media personality and public speaker.
Ryan McPartlin (1993) is an actor primarily known for his work on television (Captain Awesome on Chuck).
Eboo Patel is a member of the Obama Administration's Faith Advisory Council and founder and executive director of the Interfaith Youth Core.
Nikos Tselios (1997) is a former NHL defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes (2001–02).
