School Notes:
  • Glenbrook South High School, or GBS, is a public four-year high school located in Glenview, Illinois, a North Shore suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Northfield Township High School District, which also includes Glenbrook North High School.
  • History: In 1962, due to some overcrowding at Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South High School was established. It underwent a dramatic expansion in 2002, which added dozens of classrooms, revamped the music and performing art facilities, and reconfigured parking and athletics fields.
  • Today, Glenbrook South High School is noted for its outstanding curriculum and quality of education, having been repeatedly named to a variety of best-in-the-nation lists. For example, as part of the First in the World Consortium, GBS students scored first in the world in international math & science testing. To congratulate them on their success, then-President Clinton visited the school. Furthermore, over 95% of students go on to college after graduation. Its sports teams, under the team name "Titans," have also enjoyed success over the years.
  • Hazing incident: After the infamous hazing incident involving Glenbrook North students, another District 225 hazing incident made news in April 2004. After an investigation, the board of education announced that 24 members of the Glenbrook South High School's lacrosse team had gathered at a player's house for an underage drinking party and an initiation paddling of the junior players. All were suspended and had to receive counseling. The rest of the team's season was also cancelled.
  • Academics: In 2005, Glenbrook South had an average composite ACT score of 23.9, and graduated 97% of its senior class. The average class size is 19. Glenbrook South has made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act.
