The Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout is named in honor of Justin Sharp, a former basketball player at Rock Island High School. Justin died December 12, 2003 after a battle with leukemia. As a junior, Justin earned awards such as: All-State Honorable Mention (IBCA), First Team All-Western Big 6, All-Metro (Rock Island Argus), Team Tri-Captain, Co-MVP, Best Defensive Player, Mr. Hustle, and Most Improved.
- Since his death, the Rock Island program has instituted the Justin Sharp 3-D Award. This award is presented to the player who best portrays Justin's 3 "D's" of Dedication, Desire, and Determination. Along with this award, the recipient receives a scholarship from Justin's Memorial Fund. The Davenport Central Program presents the Justin Sharp Passion Award to the player that best exemplified his passion to succeed. In addition, there is a scholarship awarded to Quad City area students in Justin's honor that is funded by his Memorial Fund. The donation from this tournament goes directly to Justin's Memorial.
