At the start of the fourth overtime Saturday in Freeport’s Class 2A boys state soccer third-place match against Troy Triad, Pretzels coach Nick Namio was preparing to make additional substitutions. But they wouldn’t be needed.

Sandy Gumon, RN, nurse manager of Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department, was honored recently with a Patriot Award from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. She was nominated by Jennifer Stoner, RN, of O'Fallon, a first lieutenant in the Air National Guard and a nurse in Memorial's Emergency Department.
