School Notes:
  • Burlington High School is located in the city of Burlington in the U.S. State of Kansas. It occupies the westernmost building in the northern education complex on the outer edge of the city limits. It is the only high school in the USD 244 school district.
  • History: In 2005, an addition was made to the athletics portion of the campus by adding baseball and softball diamonds, so the team could play closer to the school.
  • Campus: The front of the building houses the administration offices, band practice room and special services rooms. Other notable details include:
  • A gymnasium on the western side of the main building.
  • A football field with large red brick stadium and softball/baseball diamonds.
  • To the east is the middle school that houses grades 6 through 8.
  • A courtyard and gazebo use to be in the center of the facility. However this was closed to the outside and turned into a technology lab and computer-aided drafting room.
  • Extracurricular Activities: The mascot of Burlington High is the Wildcats. They have had success over the years in individual sports having many students that went on to have excellent college careers. The basketball teams won the 2000 Kansas State Girls Basketball Championship, and the 2004 Kansas State Boys Basketball Championships with multiple showings in the tournament over the years.
  • At some point in the school's history the mascot was changes from the Pink Grasshoppers.
  • Curriculum: USD 244 has the basic high school schedule this includes a Study Hall class that allowes to catch up on work.
  • The school newspaper is Cat Tracks.
  • Burlington High attracts many transfer students due to its close proximity to Wolf Creek. During the refueling time period several families move in to help with the outage causing the Burlington, and the school student population to rise.
  • Over the last decade several security measures have been inacted to protect the students and faculty in the wake of incidents such as Columbine, even though there has been no reported cause to believe similar events will happen there.
