Russell S. McDaniel, a two-time chief of the old Jefferson County Police Department who was credited with giving it a national reputation for professionalism and progress, died Friday at Britthaven of South Louisville. He was 81.

Interstate 71 southbound was closed at Crestwood for about 2½ hours Friday morning after a truck driver discovered his rig was leaking a flammable chemical product near the intersection with the Gene Snyder Freeway.

Fairdale High School is a part of the Jefferson County Public Schools system in the United States. Approximately 950-1,000 students are enrolled. It is one of the District's Magnet Career Schools for Public Safety Technology. Areas of study include Law Enforcement, Fire and Emergency Medical Technology, Medical Office Technology, Radio Electronic Communications, and Heavy Equipment/Construction. Students shadow public safety professionals throughout the program and have the opportunity for internships in their chosen fields.
The principal is Linda Brown. She has led the school in various capacities over the years prior to becoming principal.
The Assistant Principals are: Derico Irvin, Brad Weston, and Catherine Bell.
The Counselors are: Michelle Ising, Christopher Johnstone, and Barbara Longacre.
