Dartmouth High School is a four-year public high school located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,315 students and 82.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 15.9.
History
Dartmouth High School was founded in 1903. The school began to grow when it was moved to Slocum Road, in what is now the town hall, a spot it occupied, both full-time and part-time, until 1981. In 1955 a new school was built next door, on the corner of Hawthorne Street, with the school being expanded twice, in the 1960s and 1981. The school gained national attention in 1993 when it was the scene of student violence when a student was murdered in a classroom, despite the school having no history of similar behavior. Karter Reed, Gator Collet, both 16, and Nigel Thomas, 15 were charged with first degree murder. In 2001, a third, modern high school was built on former farmland three miles to the south, with the former building becoming the middle school.
Music Department
Dartmouth is renowned for its high school band. The Dartmouth High School Marching Band was a Division 5 winner of both USSBA and NESBA in 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008. Additionally, they have many other titles in NESBA, MICCA and formerly in EMBA. The group has also performed at the 1996 Tournament of Roses Parade, as well as several other festivals and Magic Music Days at the Walt Disney World Resort. Notably, in 2006 the Marching Band was featured on the album Back By Thug Demand by popular rap artist Trick Daddy. In addition to the band, the percussion and colorguard have performed in the Winter Percussion season, where the Dartmouth High Winter Percussion won the Winter Guard International Percussion Scholastic World Championships in 1998, 1999, 2008 and 2009.
Drama Department
Each year the drama club holds both school play and a school musical. Here are some recent years:

2007: A Musical Fable, Acts of Laughter
Fall 2002: All in the Timing,Spring 2003: The Secret Garden,Fall 2003: The Laramie Project,Spring 2004: Bat Boy: The Musical,Fall 2005: Titanic: A New Musical,Spring 2005: Arsenic and Old Lace,In Fall 2005 there was a competition of four one-act plays by each class; the Senior class performance was And Then There Was One, and was the winner of the competition. The Love Doctor was also performed.Spring 2006: Smokey Joe's Cafe.
The Drama Club also put on an "Improv Night" every semester between fall of 2002 and spring of 2006. There were also musical cabarets between spring 2003 and spring 2006. These cabarets featured a variety of popular songs from contemporary musicals.
