IRON MOUNTAIN - A benefit for Gayle (Duff) Strutz of Quinnesec is planned Saturday at the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 in Iron Mountain from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Strutz has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Adencarcinoma (a form of lung cancer). She is a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1974. She and her husband Jim currently reside in Quinnesec.
Kingsford to prepare lease for soccer field (The Iron Mountain Daily News)

KINGSFORD - The city of Kingsford will draft an agreement to allow the Breitung Township School District to lease a city-owned soccer field. Kingsford Commemorative Field, located at the former Riverside Disposal Area on Evergreen Drive, serves as the home field for the Kingsford High School soccer teams. Iron Mountain High School also hosts games at the field.

Breitung Township, Iron Mountain and Norway-Vulcan school districts have received good news with their 2008-09 report cards from the Michigan Department of Education. Schools in all three districts have all received the highest grade - an A - as well as meeting the standards for Adequate Yearly Programs (AYP), another standard from the federal government.

KINGSFORD - Ariel Bloniarz, a senior at Kingsford High School, was named volunteer of the year in the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program for their community service. Ariel is the daughter of Al and Sandy Bloniarz of Iron Mountain.
