Jonesboro High School is a high school located in Jonesboro, Arkansas and is part of the Jonesboro Public Schools School District.
As of 2007, the school principal is Terry Trotter.
Academics: Jonesboro High School is rich in tradition and has served students since the awarding of the first four diplomas in 1899. Since 1924, Jonesboro High School has been a charter member accreditated by the North Central Association (NCA) Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (CASI).
In 1982-1983, Jonesboro High School was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education, one of only six high schools in the state ever to be awarded this honor.
As of 2006-2007, JHS offers the following Advanced Placement (AP) courses: Chemistry, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Calculus AB, Government & Politics, Biology, Spanish, and World and U.S. History.
Extracurricular Activities: JHS offers a variety of clubs to appeal to students with varied interests ranging from clubs that are academically based, such as the foreign language clubs, to honorary organizations (National Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society), to leadership (National Student Council, FBLA, etc.), sports (“J” Club and FCA), drug prevention (PRIDE Youth Program), to those clubs that are sponsored by civic organizations whose general intent is philanthropic.
Facilities: The current school building was designed by Jonesboro firm Little and Associates. This replaced the original building destroyed by a tornado on May 27th, 1973.
Athletics: As of 2005, the Jonesboro High School Golden Hurricane received the honor of receiving the AAAAA East Conference All Sports Trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years. JHS students participate in football, volleyball, basketball, swimming and diving, cheerleading, dance team, baseball, track & field, tennis, golf, softball, and soccer. Jonesboro High School boys' basketball team beat Forrect City High School in the 6A state championship in 2007.
Notable alumni: 1945: Charley Thornton; 1983: Debbye Turner, Miss America 1990.
