    GLOVERSVILLE - On Friday, a group of about 15 city kids eager to participate in the city's summer recreation program chatted and laughed while on a city transit bus en route to the Fulton County YMCA.

    GLOVERSVILLE - City and county police agencies joined together at the first National Night Out event in the city Tuesday, and it was a small but successful affair, officials said. Gloversville Police Department Detective Michael Jory said his department was pleased with the outpouring of support from the community and plans to make next year bigger and better.

    GLOVERSVILLE - With the city's summer recreation program beginning at the Fulton County YMCA next week, officials there said they want children and parents to understand how to participate. The program will begin Monday and last until Aug. 7. Most of the programming is limited to children between the ages of 6 and 14.

    GLOVERSVILLE - The story of a young Japanese girl who tried to fold 1,000 paper cranes, an accomplishment said to grant the folder one wish, inspired Gloversville Middle School sixth-grader Alex Bielli to make a wish of her own. According to the book "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes," the Japanese girl, Sadako Sasaki, died before she could finish.
  • City may repair fire station roof (The Leader-Herald)

    GLOVERSVILLE - The city may have $25,000 to $30,000 left over from a City Hall repair project low bid approved Tuesday night by the Common Council. The city may be able to roll the money into a project to fix the leaky roof at the city fire station. That assessment came from city Finance Commissioner Bruce VanGenderen, who briefed the council on bids during its meeting at City Hall.
