Police say the threat was real and could have been catastrophic. An upstate teenager is under arrest and was in a psychiatric ward on Tuesday night. Monroe-Woodbury High School is located in Central Valley, New York, part of the town and village of Woodbury in Orange County. It educates all students in grades 9-12 in the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District. The four levels are built into a hill overlooking Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. It is regarded as one of the most advanced high school buildings in the region.
Monroe-Woodbury has approximately 2,300 students and is growing. The high school is divided into four "houses". Each "house" is a group of students from all grade levels who take most of their classes on one of the building's floors. Each house has its own set of teachers, guidance counselors and an assistant principal.
After a food fight in the cafeteria in 2004, the entire school was ultimately locked down for three hours, the third time that such a "lockdown" had occurred that school year. Thirty students were arrested, fourteen for attempting to assault the state troopers who responded After reviewing tapes from a security camera, twelve more were arrested and six seniors were barred from taking part in graduation. The incident received national and international media attention. Two students later created and circulated an underground video of the event, set to music such as Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" and Andrew WK's "We Want Fun".
