- The Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences (LMGHS), formerly Kingsborough High School for the Sciences[1], is a four year secondary school high school, located in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York.The school is a part of the New York City Department of Education.
- Every year approximately 250 students enroll. LMGHS was rated one of the best schools in New York City by New York magazine.
- The school was built in the northern part of the campus of Kingsborough Community College and opened in 1993 by former Mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani and Leon M. Goldstein (for whom the school is named), the President of Kingsborough Community College for nearly 30 years. The high school overlooks Sheepshead Bay and is housed in a new building with state of the art facilities.[2] Goldstein has several partnerships with Kingsborough Community College and is able to use their facilities. Goldstein is also able to offer College Now as a result of this partnership, which allows students to take college courses and earn college credits.

Goldstein has state of the art facilities, and puts great emphasis on technology. The school has a Computer Lab (all of which are equipped with both Macs and PC's) on every floor, and a computer in every class room. All class rooms in Goldstein are also equipped with a SMART Board interactive whiteboard. This allows classes to be much more interactive due to access to the Internet in class. Due to this high connectivity, teachers often use the school site to post homework, and utilize modern innovations such as Blogspot and Email for their homework and assignments, which fosters academic discussion among students.

Leon M. Goldstein has a wide variety of varsity sports teams including a basketball team, swimming team, bowling team, soccer team, wrestling team, tennis team, girls volleyball team, and boys golf team.

Goldstein has an active cheerleading squad termed the “Boosters.” They play a key role in fostering school spirit, and are present at most major school events.

Goldstein has an active student government, which is elected every May. The school maintains positions for President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer , and representatives from each grade which comprise a “School Leadership Team.”

Every year Goldstein holds a competition which pairs up the Freshmen and Senior grades, versus the Sophomore and Junior grades. This singing, dancing, and acting competition is meant to foster school spirit and a sense of community in the school. This program runs from September to December and often involves a large percentage of the student body.

Goldstein sets aside an hour after school on Wednesdays for the various clubs present in the school. During this “Club Hour,” many clubs meet due to the number of interests present in the school. Clubs in this school include : the Basketball Club, the Jewish Heritage Club, the HIV/AIDS Awareness Club, the Anime Club, the Science Olympiad Team, the Chess Club, Technical Theatre, the Running Club, the Asian Club, the Italian Heritage Club, the Chemistry Club, the Math Club, and the Film Club.

Goldstein has several important national organizations such as a People to People International Student Chapter and a Key Club Chapter. Both of these clubs award community service credits to members who participate in club activities, and often involve the entire student body through their activities. Goldstein also has the Arista and Archon Honor societies, which award students for their hard work through community service and academic achievement.

Goldstein not only emphasizes the sciences, but the arts as well. Other than SING! , Goldstein puts on theatrical performances throughout the year, often involving its Drama students. There are also Winter and Spring concerts in which the school’s Chorus , Jazz Band, and Piano Students put on a performance for the student body. The school’s Piano students also put on a separate recital at the end of every school year. Furthermore, Goldstein has specially designed classrooms for the Chorus, Drama, Painting, Ceramics, and Piano elective students, in order to foster interest in the arts.

In order to pass high school, 44 credits are needed. In order to qualify for a diploma, students must complete four years of Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Physical Education. In addition, they must complete three years of Foreign Language (Spanish and Italian are offered at Goldstein) and half a year of Music, and half a year of Art.

A New York State Regents Diploma will be given to students that pass the Regents Examinations in English, Global History, American History, Sequential Math I, Sequential Math II, Sequential Math III, Foreign Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and complete three years of a Foreign Language.
