ROCK HILL, S.C. – A 16-year-old German exchange student died and Monday night her friends from South Point High School held a memorial in her honor. Hannah Hinrichsen had been in this country less than three months when she woke up with a headache. Her host mother went to check on her hours later.

South Point High School is a public high school in South Point, Ohio. It is the only high school in the South Point Local School District. The school is operated by principal John Maynard and assistant principal J.D. Emnett. The district's mascot nickname is the Pointers.
The school district recently passed a bond issue for new buildings. A new building was currently completed as well as a new football complex.
Athletics
South Point High School is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. Currently, the other members of the conference include Chesapeake High School (Panthers), Coal Grove Dawson-Bryant High School (Hornets), Proctorville Fairland High School (Dragons), Cheshire River Valley High School (Raiders), and Rock Hill High School (Redmen).
From 1948-1951, the Pointers were members of the Southern Ohio Conference.
The school will also host the home games of the newly founded football team of Kentucky Christian University in its first season of 2009.

Construction
The South Point Local School District is in the initial stages to construct all new buildings. The high school and middle school will be the first to be constructed, followed by the replacement of both elementary schools, with a total price tag of more than $42 million. The project began in March 2004 when a $4.91 million dollar bond issue and a half-million dollar levy was passed to pay for the new facilities. Over the next 27 years, the bond issue will raise $7.7 million in property taxes for construction. The Ohio School Facilities Commission will pitch in an additional $30.8 million. The high school and middle school are targeted for completion for the start of the 2007-08 school year. The elementary schools completion dates are planned for the start of the 2008-09 school year. Situated on an 85 acre site off Sand Road, just north of US 52 behind the Ohio State Highway Patrol building and Highland Memorial Gardens, the high school will be about while the middle school will be about . The two schools will share a common cafeteria, which will seat as many as 600. The site will include a new sports complex. Due to lack of space and its current location, South Point Elementary will be built on the grounds of the old high school and middle school buildings, which will be demolished once the new ones are constructed. The new Burlington Elementary will be built at its current site.
SCORES
South Point sends students to SCORES at Marshall University frequently.
