WARREN - The formal handover Tuesday of U.S. control of Baghdad and other cities to Iraqi officials is being watched closely with mixed reactions by local Iraq War veterans. Herm Breuer, injured by a car bomb during a yearlong tour in Iraq, said he believes the pullback should have happened a long time ago and more emphasis placed on battling insurgents in Afghanistan.

Pat Ryan still remembers those glory days of playing defensive end for the highly successful Niles Red Dragons of the mid-1960s and earning All-American status at Youngstown State University. The dark days also are etched in his memory. Both of his sons, Justin and Jason, died tragically, three years apar.

Champion High School is a public high school in Champion Township, near Warren, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Champion Local School District. Their nickname is the Golden Flashes.
