School Notes:
  • Ponaganset High School is a school of the Foster-Glocester School District, located in North Scituate, Rhode Island (in Providence County). The majority of high school students in the rural towns of Foster, Rhode Island and Glocester, Rhode Island attend this school. This is a public high school, known for its music program, as well as its agricultural and automotive specialties (which seem to be popular due to the rural nature of the area). The school has gained notoriety in RI for having a seemingly disproportionate number of winter weather-related cancellations each year, notable to many who are accustomed to local radio and television personalities announcing "no school, Foster-Glocester" on days when most of the state is fully functional. The cancellations stem from the rural layout and high-altitude terrain of the two towns; inclement weather conditions make the area more dangerous to travel in car or schoolbus compared to the rest of Rhode Island's coastal, suburban and urban areas.
  • Recent graduates have attended well known schools such as Wake Forest University, Emerson College, Harvard University, Bates College, Community College of Rhode Island, Carleton College, Ithaca College, Ursinus College, Providence College, and Brown University.
  • PHS is currently under the public eye with regards to their fuel cell program, titled "Fuel Cell Systems and Infastructure". Led by instructor Ross McCurdy, this program has received several grants from various organizations, such as the Department of Defense, and local energy corporations. They are currently converting a gasoline powered vehicle to a fuel cell/battery-electric hybrid vehicle.
  • Noted alumni include astronaut "Woody" Spring.
