- Cordova High School is a public high school (grades 9-12) located at 1800 Berryhill Road in the Cordova community of unincorporated Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, east of the city of Memphis, with a ZIP code of 38016.
- Cordova High School is a part of the Memphis City Schools district.
- Cordova High School serves portions of Memphis as well as some portions of unincorporated Shelby County which are also zoned to elementary and middle schools in the Shelby County Schools district.
- In 2007 Cordova High School had an expected enrollment of 2,400.
- History
-
The high school was constructed in 1996 and completed in 1997 as a joint venture between the Memphis City Schools district and the Shelby County Schools district. The school opened during the 1997-1998 school year to a class of freshmen as a school within the Shelby County Schools. The freshmen of the 1997-1998 school year voted the school colors to be green and black, and the school's mascot to be the wolf. Each of the following years the school added a new class until 2001 the first graduating class left Cordova High School.
- The 2003-2004 school year ended with Cordova High school leaving the Shelby County Schools district and joining the Memphis City Schools district. Cordova adopted a school uniform policy in Fall 2004, since the entire Memphis City Schools district adopted a uniform policy and all schools were required to adopt one at the time.
- During the 2005-2006 school year, the school's administration put a banner in the school's main lobby area that would count the days the school had without a fight occurring. During this school year, the count never reached double digits and the banner was taken down after approximately 3 to 6 months of failure to prevent fights.
- Shortly after Memphis City annexed this school, security was increased; security cameras were installed, a strict hall monitoring policy was put into place, metal detectors were installed, as well as an increased police presence in order to deter fights and gang activity. The doors maintain a strict "closed at all times" policy unless a school official unlocks it for a student. The students are required at all times to maintain a student ID, as well as IDs for all their various activities (i.e. a "Yearbook Staff" ID).
- Courses and Programs
-
Cordova High School offers a wide range of opportunities for any type of student. Advanced Placement classes are available, preparing students for college.
