In 1952, a new high school was needed in Bakersfield, California. Bakersfield already had two high school which were Bakersfield High School and East High School. On March 23, 1952 the North High campus groundbreaking began. Shortly after on September 8th 1953 the school was opened to new students for the first time ever. The offical mascot was Twink but was changed in the 2005-2006 school year to Captain Galaxy. North High has a vast student body which is rapidly growing and numerous clubs for students to join.
Clubs: North High has a vast numberous clubs for the student body. Here is the current listing of them: Drama, California Scholarship Federation, Associated Student Body, AVID, Interact Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Virtual Enterprise, Colorguard, Band, Choir, North Star Players, Commercial Arts, Marine Corps JROTC, Wildlife Club, H20 Swim Club, Ski Club, FENCE (Following Every Notion Continue Education), Mock Trial, Forensics, Spanish Club, French Club, MAYA Club, Black Student Union, Friday Night Live, Gay-Straight Alliance, British Literature, Philosophy, Computer Club, Action Club, Spirit Leaders, Library Club, and Yearbook.
