Legendary Smiths Station High School football coach and former Lee County Schools Superintendent T.C. Britton was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon in the Columbus Regional Medical Center emergency room, suffering from cardiac arrest. He was 77.

T. C. Britton, who coached the 1958 Smiths Station High School football team to a state championship and later served 20 years as superintendent of the Lee County School System, died today.
