Rebekah Wooden scored twice, while Ashley May also added a goal for the Hawks. The Darts goals were scored by Cami Ostler, Sammie Swan and Kenzie Harrison.   • Alta High School is a secondary school in Sandy, Utah which services students from Sandy and Draper, Utah. Founded in 1978, it is part of the Canyons School District.
  • Athletics
  • Alta's girls' soccer team was ranked second in the nation in 2006, and is coached by Lee Mitchell, who was named national coach of the year. The team won state championships in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The Alta Hawks Football Team won state championships in 1983, 1988, 2007, and 2008. The Lady Hawks Tennis Team won back-to-back state championships in 2007 and 2008. The Boys Cross Country Team won a state championship in 2008.
  • Alta also offers football, golf, tennis, cross country, soccer, volleyball,ballroom,drill team,cheerleading, basketball, wrestling, swimming, diving, hockey, baseball, softball, track and field, lacrosse, Rugby union, ultimate, bowling, and other athletic clubs.

  • The school opened in 1978. The modern, two-level brick building is situated on a site which enjoys an unobstructed view of both Oquirrh and Wasatch Mountain ranges. Two-thirds of the building has undergone extensive remodeling in the past two years.School is in session for 180 days per year on a traditional 9-month calendar. Students attend four eighty minute classes each day on an alternating block schedule beginning at 7:55 a.m. and ending at 2:25 p.m.
  • The teacher/pupil ratio used for hiring is 1 to 26.50 students. (Actual class sizes vary.)Alta offers a broad and varied curriculum which exceeds requirements of the Utah State Core Curriculum.Students must earn 27 credits and pass competency tests in basic skills in order to graduate.The Alta staff includes ninety classroom teachers, five counselors, a school psychologist, a vocational coordinator, a media coordinator, a principal and four assistant principals. All of these educators are state certificated and hold bachelor's, master's, or educational specialist degrees.
  • The faculty is organized by departments where teachers coordinate and plan together. Instruction is delivered in self-contained classrooms. Some classes are team taught.All teachers and administrators are evaluated on a regular basis. Career ladder teachers are evaluated every three years, while new teachers are evaluated at least twice a year.Counselors are available to assist students who have questions or problems.
  • Students are expected to maintain appropriate dress, attendance and discipline standards.Honors and advanced placement courses are available to gifted/superior students.Student incentive and recognition programs are used extensively.Special services are available to students with learning disabilities.Technology training is available to students in all grades.
  • A full activity program is provided including sports, forensics, drama, dance, music, art, clubs, and student government.Bus service is provided for students who live two miles (3 km) or more from school.A hot lunch program is available to students daily at a cost of $1.75.Alta High has an active and supportive PTSA as well as the Alta Action Committee which meets monthly as an advisory board and decision-making body on school-related issues.Adult visitors and volunteers are welcome and asked to check in at the office upon arrival.Alta High has one of the nation's most effective advanced placement programs and the highest number of student participants in the state of Utah. Alta seniors earn well over 5,500 quarter hours of college credit each year through advanced placement classes.
  • Alta has the District's largest concurrent enrollment program with Salt Lake Community College. Courses are taught on the Alta campus by Alta teachers for college credit.Alta High athletic teams have captured state championships in football and boys' track, gymnastics, basketball, girls' cross country, baseball, softball, boys' soccer, girls' soccer and boys' tennis.Alta also holds the nationally ranked literary-art magazine, Euphony, which is published on a year-to-year basis.
