School Notes:
  • J.E.B. Stuart High School is a secondary school in Fairfax County, Virginia named after the famous confederate cavalry leader J.E.B. Stuart. The school is part of the Fairfax County Public Schools district. The school has a Falls Church address but is not located within the city limits of the City of Falls Church.
  • The school has been featured in National Geographic magazine, and has received national recognition by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the International Baccalaureatte program. President George W. Bush chose to speak there about education during the 2004-2005 school year.
  • In 2006, Principal Mel Riddile was chosen as the principal of the year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Riddile moved to T.C. Williams High School in neighboring Alexandria City at the end of the 05-06 school year. Assistant Principal Pamela Jones took his place.
  • They are also known for their breakthrough recycling club, named Ingenium, which was founded by three students in the class of 2008. This program sparked an interest in many other high schools, and in 2006, all schools were given the resources to create a similar program.
  • The school's music department has also gained prominence in recent years, being named a Blue Ribbon School for music by the Virginia Music Educators Association in 2003 and 2006. The band was named a Virginia Honor Band by the Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors Association in 2000, 2004 and 2006. The school's top choir, the Madrigals, were also selected to perform at the Virginia Music Educators Association's annual conference in 2006. In addition to this, J.E.B. Stuart High School has hosted District X band auditions in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and has hosted the District X Orchestra concert in 2005. Their marching band recieved superior at a state competition in 2006.
  • J.E.B. Stuart Sports: The J.E.B. Stuart athletic website can be found at [www.raidersports.org]. Stuart boasts an accomplished Cross Country team as well as an excellent sport rowing team, that recently went to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Championships in 2006. Stuart is also proud to have sent a men's light weight eight to the World Championships in England in the 60s. While they are one of the smaller teams, they are also among the most versatile, and one of very few that enters both sweeping and sculling events, many times double-rowing their rowers to do so. In 2004, their men's quad won the Virginia State Championship. They also have a successful Cross Country team, which won districts in 2005 and got second place in 2006. However, the 2006 Football team lost a terrible loss against rival Falls Church, 62 to 6 in the bell game. The boys swim team won districts last year, and the girls swim team was runner-up. Both the boys and girls swim team have won the Bell meet for the past two years.
