School Notes:
  • Brentsville District High School is a public secondary school in Nokesville, Virginia and part of Prince William County Public Schools. It is the only high school in Prince William County considered to be in a developing rural community.
  • History: Brentsville officially opened on September 5, 1929, and hosted grades one through eleven. From 1929 to 1964, Brentsville existed in the building that currently exists as Nokesville Elementary School. In 1964, the school moved to its new building located on Aden road, and over the years additions were made to the building's structure, with the most recent being a new gym building, with the old gym becoming the school's current library.
  • In 2002, the School transitioned from both a high school and middle school into solely a high school institution. Remodeling plans for 2006 include the refitting of the auditorium, adding more comfortable seats, bowing the stage, and replacing a sound panel wall. The high school may transition back down to a middle school due to its limited sewage and building capacity.
  • Athletics and extracurriular accomplishments: Brentsville's mascot is the tiger and the sports teams currently play in the AA Northwestern District and Region II. Because Brentsville is the only Prince William County school that does not play in Group AAA, they rarely play schools in their county in athletic activities. Nevertheless, the school still takes pride in it storied wrestling and cross country championship histories, with Sports Illustrated Magazine in 2005 deeming this school as the top athletic school in Virginia. The school has also been a recipient of the Blue Ribbon Academic School award.
  • Brentsville played in the A Bull Run District until 2003 due to the school's exploding population. Brentsville's enrollment continues to grow very rapidly today and may soon be in Group AAA as early as 2009 when the Tigers would finally be united with its Prince William neighbors.
