Enrollment is up at the Aberdeen School District this year, so much so that the school district will hire five new teachers at the elementary level.

The Washington Assessment of Student Learning scores are in and the results for the Twin Harbors are not good. While percentages of students passing the tests have held fairly steady, they are often still not high enough to meet the state’s standards.

The Aberdeen School District will cut 16.4 full-time equivalent teaching positions in its schools, the result of enrollment declines and state budget cuts that together mean at least $1 million less for the struggling school district, Superintendent Marty Kay announced at the School Board meeting Tuesday night.
