Kentlake High School is a public high school, of more than 2,000 students, serving ninth through twelfth grades, in Kent, Washington, USA. It is part of the Kent School District.
History
Kentlake High School was designed by the architectural firm Burr Lawrence Rising and Bates and built in 1996. The school sits on a wooded site with a view of Mt. Rainier and of wetland overlooking Druid's Glen Golf Course. Built to accommodate 1600 students, the brick-exterior, two story facility has for student use. Under a cooperative agreement with King County Parks, an adjacent site provides additional fields for Kentlake's athletic programs.
Kentlake welcomed its first student body, the classes of 1999 and 2000 in grades 10-12, when it opened on September 2, 1996. Kentlake was transformed into a full high school housing grades 9-12, in the 2004-2005 school year, when the junior high schools failed to meet the needs the of the district that resulted from population growth.
Academic courses
Kentlake is one of the few schools to offer college credit courses such as marketing as well as a CNA class which prepares students for the CNA test. Other college classes include those offered by the University of Washington; US history, Spanish, and French.
Website controversy
In February 2000 Chief Judge John Coughenour ordered the school to reinstate a student who had been suspended for creating an unofficial school website at home. He said that the school did not have the authority to punish students for exercising their freedom of speech outside of school. This was an important case testing free speech.
Sport
Kentlake participates in the WIAA 4A division. Their girls volleyball team has won the 4A state championships three times; in 2000, 20001, and 2002. The fast-pitch softball team has made it to the quarter finals six times, the semifinals three times, and to the state championship once. Kentlake's baseball team reached the state championship in 2008.

Courtney Thompson - University of Washington volleyball player, member of the NCAA 2005 championship team , awarded the Honda Award as the nation's top female player the highest award a female student athlete can receive Is now or was a member of the United States women's national volleyball team.
Felecia Harris - High School All-American fastpitch player for Kentlake 2005-2008 and holds the all-time state career home run record with 23. Plays for the University of Washington softball team that won the national championship in 2009. Was named Honorable Mention All Pac-10 Freshman as P/1B.
