School Notes:
  • Nicolet High School is a public secondary school located in Glendale, Wisconsin. Today, Nicolet is considered one of the premier public high schools in Wisconsin. Nicolet High School is the only school in the Nicolet Unified School District, which serves Glendale, Fox Point, Bayside, and River Hills. Primary schooling is left up to three feeder districts. The Nicolet Unified School district is one of the few school districts in Wisconsin to be made up of only one school.
  • History: Before the construction of Nicolet, students living in the district attended either Shorewood High School or Whitefish Bay High School. Nicolet first opened its doors on 15 September 1954. During the 2005-2006 school year, Nicolet High School celebrated its 50th anniversary.
  • Foreign Language: While Nicolet High School's foreign language department had been considered one of the best in the greater Milwaukee area, it has begun to shrink. It once offered French, Spanish, German, Latin, Japanese, and Hebrew. Japanese is no longer offered. In addition, the French program has received significant cuts. The majority of foreign language students take Spanish.
  • Theatre: Nicolet's theatre program is well-noticed in the Wisconsin area because of the beautifully crafted and organized theatre and it's availability of acting courses. The theatre is fully equipped with high-tech lighting, props and backdrops. Acting classes taught by theatre directors can be taken by students as semester courses. The 2006-2007 school year marks the 50th anniversery of theatre at Nicolet: "The Tradition Continues".
  • Academics: Nicolet educates students in the local tradition of 'Tracking.' Students who plan to enter Nicolet as Freshman are tested the spring of their 8th grade year, and are categorized based on their results as either "Basic," "College Prep," "Accelerated," and "Honors." Once placed in a category, students will attend core classes (English, Math, Sciences, and Social Studies) only with other students in their track.
