If there ever were a son of Brady St., it's got to be Capt. Frank Alioto of the Milwaukee Fire Department. He and his wife have been active advocates for the neighborhood since they bought their Astor St. house in 1992.

A program called Read 180 helped students improve their reading, jumping ahead more than a grade, and, in some cases, several grades. And it wasn't cheap - MPS spent $3.2 million, more than $1,500 per student, on the program.
