An estimated 900 Nipomo High School students refused to attend class Friday despite the urging of their principal and some teachers Friday so they could rally to support 31 teachers at the school who recently received pink slips.

Someone shot the front of Lopez Continuation High School in Arroyo Grande six times over the weekend, damaging stucco and breaking two windows. Sheriff's deputies are investigating the vandalism. The bullets hit near the front of the school's office area. No one living near the school, which is located at 1055 Mesa View Drive, heard the shots, according to the Sheriff's Department.
