School Notes:
  • Cypress Bay High School is a secondary school located in Weston, Florida open for students in grades 9-12. Cypress Bay is a part of the Broward County Public Schools district.
  • It currently enrolls almost 4,000 students. The groundbreaking for the future site of CBHS occurred in early 2001, and construction was finished by late 2002. The school offers a broad range of academic pursuits including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, honors courses, and an array of academic and extracurricular student clubs and organizations. It is located adjacent to Falcon Cove Middle School. Cypress Bay has an FCAT school grade of "B" for the 2008-2009 academic year.
  • Student body
  • Cypress Bay opened in 2002 with 200 students over its projected capacity. A 9th grade annex was built for the 2003-2004 school year and abolished in 2008. A new building was opened in the main campus for the school year 2005-2006 to alleviate overcrowding. This building was specifically designated to house sophomore courses (not including electives). That same year, the 2006 senior class was the first to have attended the school for all four years and at the same location. This will not occur again until the class of 2012.
  • During the 2007-2008 school year, Cypress Bay reached a maximum enrollment of more than 5,500 students and was consequently named the most populous high school in the United States. In response, the school board decided to cap enrollment as a temporary measure to alleviate overcrowding and all new registering students were sent over to Western High School. After the 2008-2009 school year the school boundaries were changed and all students south of Griffin Rd. were assigned to the new West Broward High School, while students living in Bonaventure were assigned to Western High School.
  • The total enrollment in Cypress Bay was 3960 students, 1908 of which are female, and the other 2052 are male (as of 8/30/2005). For the past few years Cypress Bay has had the largest graduating class in the country.
  • Cypress Bay High School's student body is racially, culturally and religiously diverse. Race distribution consists of 45% of the population being classified as White (non-Hispanic), 45% Hispanic, 5% black, 3% Asian, and 2% Multiracial. The school has one of the biggest proportions of Venezuelan and Colombian students in the United States, as well as a prominent Jewish presence.
  • ACCLAIM Award
  • The ACCLAIM Awards were created to honor an outstanding principal and assistant principal each year for their hard work and dedication. The awards seek to recognize school leaders who excel in the following areas: Achievement, Communication, Compassion, Leadership, Accountability, Innovation and Motivation.
  • On May 13, 2009, Broward County picked Priscilla Ribeiro from Cypress Bay High School out of three other finalists to win the Assistant Principal of the Year Award.
