    HOWELL — As school begins and the air turns crisp, the Howell Parks and Recreation Department is busy preparing for the most anticipated yearly event in the community. The 37th anniversary celebration of Howell Day is set to kick off at noon on Sept. 26 at Oak Glen Park, Preventorium and Old Tavern roads, and promises a day's worth of fun and celebration.

    • The Jackson VFW is running its annual Fall Turkey Target Shoots every Sunday until Nov. 15. Only 12-gauge, full-choke, non-ported, non-altered shotguns are allowed (screw-in chokes are allowed but will be checked by the post safety officer). The shoots start at 1 p.m. and are open to the public. Food and beverages are available.
