Maria Reyes was worth the wait. The original Freedom Writer was supposed to speak before the entire student body at B.M.C. Durfee High School on Friday, but her arrival was delayed by 1 1/2 hours due to travel difficulties.

Judith Othine Anlauf Vandelac Kanner passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 12, 2009. Born in the St. Paul/Midway area of Minnesota, she attended Wilson High School and Hamline University. She was awarded a degree in nursing.

For most, an opportunity to run in front of a crowd of 40,000 or 50,000 people comes once in a lifetime, if at all. But 500 people will get that chance next month right here in Belmont Shore. It’s the Jingle Bell Jaunt, and it will take place just before the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade on Dec. 5.
