On Sept. 10, as temperatures continued to rise in Vacaville, a very sweet gentleman stopped at my crosswalk in front of Cambridge Elementary School to hand me a popsicle. I just wanted to publicly thank him for his kindness.In these challenging times for all of us, little gifts showing concern for others is truly a blessing.

Another school year, another set of test scores. And what do we now know that we didn't know last year, or the year before that, or the year before that?Not much.Basically, white, Asian and Filipino students in the Vacaville, Travis and Dixon unified school districts appear to be receiving an education that the state of California and the U.

The Solano Emergency Medical Services Cooperative board did the right thing Thursday when it opted to stick with a local ambulance provider instead of contracting with a national group, and that deserves a pick. Local school crossing guards gathered for some training, and to be honored for outstanding performance in the last school year. Thirty-six of the volunteers gathered Wednesday. Those receiving excellent performance awards included: Bennie Bishop (Foxboro), Dennis Corcoran (Foxboro), Joseph Despaine (Markham), Mildred Johnson (Alamo), Penny Ramey (Cambridge) and Richard Record (Hemlock).
